Heatwave Search Report: The most searched for beaches and resorts in Cornwall revealed
We’ve produced the Heatwave Search Report 2018.
The report analyses the impact that the recent heatwave had on Google searches for holidays, beaches and accommodation in Cornwall.
We know that Cornish beaches are the best in the country and are always hugely popular with locals and holidaymakers alike – but just how did the recent record-breaking hot weather influence demand?
By looking at the search volumes across a broad range of keywords during the heat wave peak in July and comparing it with data from the previous year, we can reveal some interesting trends.
Holidays: Devon vs Cornwall
With July marking the start of the school summer holidays, we wanted to see how the heatwave had influenced searches for holidays in Devon and Cornwall.
The above graph shows a 45% year-on-year (YoY) increase for ‘holidays in Cornwall’ searches, while searches for ‘holidays in Devon’ were up just 19%.
We also found that searches for ‘B&Bs in Cornwall’ we also up 65%, as would-be holidaymakers looked to down tools and head for the coast.

Newquay was unsurprisingly the most searched for Cornish seaside resort, but which other seaside towns were getting the most searches on Google?
Most in-demand beaches in Cornwall
As the country melted, many people quickly headed to their nearest beach. As a result, many Cornish beaches saw huge year on year search increases. Here are the most in-demand beaches and biggest YoY risers:
With 84% of all holidays now being booked online, it’s no surprise that the heatwave has seen a significant rise in the volume of searches being made for holidays and beaches in the South West.
As a result, those local businesses that have already invested in effectively optimising their websites and keyword strategies will be the ones that stand to gain most from this significant increase in online demand.
